Florida Cancer Control Efforts

The Florida Department of Health is dedicated to reducing the occurrence and mortality rate of cancer in the state and improving life for those affected by the disease. The agency strives to improve access to information, resources, support, and services for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship for all residents, regardless of financial status, healthcare coverage, or any other personal factors. Here are the Florida Department of Health's four primary anti-cancer initiatives.

The Florida State Cancer Plan

  • Directs Florida’s cancer control initiatives
  • Promotes cancer prevention awareness
  • Makes timely diagnosis and treatment more accessible
  • Increases access to survivorship support

The Florida Comprehensive Cancer Control Program

  • Supported financially by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Works with public and private sector partners on unified statewide cancer efforts

The State Cancer Councils

  • The Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council
  • The Florida Cancer Plan Council
  • The Florida Biomedical Research Advisory Council
  • The South East American Indian Council

The Regional Cancer Control Collaboratives

  • Made up of six regional collaboratives
  • Enact the Florida Cancer Plan in their local counties
  • NWFCCC is proud to serve Northwest Florida
